What If, Indeed

What more could any of us possibly need?

Sisters!

This is Linda Cardellini. I have adored her for ages, from ER to Mad Men to Bloodline. As if that's not enough, I recently found out that her middle name is Edna*! Which makes me like her all the more.

This is Ellen Page. I also adore her, from Juno to Inception to the recent Netflix offering, Umbrella Academy. While watching Umbrella Academy last weekend, I swear I would blink and Ellen would be Linda for just a second. There is a remarkable resemblance between the two women that is more obvious in motion than in still photos. All I want to know is, why haven't they been cast as sisters? If there were more than tennish years in age difference, why not mother and daughter?

*My Mom's name was Edna.

Now that I have consulted IMDB, it seems that both actresses appeared in the 2010 superhero wannbe movie Super. I have not seen this film so I do not know if they were on screen at the same time. But still.

Last Night

Alas, thought Newton, if only I had opposable thumbs. Then I could pick up that glass and participate in National Drink Wine Day.

Cheers!

Damn! I nearly forgot that it's National Drink Wine Day today! Black Box Chardonnay in a purple stemmed glass. I may just be getting in under the wire, but at least I do it with style.

Fifty Five

Oh, dear brother. You would have been fifty-five years old today. I hope there's cake where you are. And beer. And Pop Tarts. Your smile still lights up my memories. I hear your voice in my younger son. Days of remembrance like today now bring more smiles from the laughter you brought into my life than tears over the untimely loss of you. It's funny how an annoying little brother can grow up to be one of your bestest friends. Happy birthday.

Joy of Sox

Yes, please, do wear the holiday appropriate socks. And when you decide to take a picture of them, naturally the cat shows up and wishes to be included.

And then he sticks around long enough for a picture mostly of him. Every sort of love counts today. Newton, you are my Valentine.

In Need of Good News

Monday morning I logged onto Facebook only to discover that a friend had died. I knew he was sick but the last word was treatments for his cancer were going well. Living at a distance now, I was not aware that he had recently been admitted into hospice care. Damn. Tuesday morning I logged onto Facebook only to learn that a couple, both friends, were divorcing. Amicably, they say, and that they hope that all of us will refrain from taking sides and remain supportive. This morning I logged on with a feeling of trepidation. The other shoe had dropped but what about things coming in threes? Instead of angsting over what-ifs, I'm accepting the harsh reality that bad and sad news is an unavoidable part of life. My meditation for today will be for protection and courage for myself as well as those I care about. And to look for the joy. Always look for the joy.

Feeling Receptive

Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.

It's actually English breakfast with sugar and cream. It seems Newton and I prefer the same tea doctored up in the same fashion. Also, the cat is drinking from a cat cup. How terribly appropriate.

No Whining!

I was not aware that such a celebratory day existed. And it's fine with me if the vintners themselves manufactured this holiday to possibly sell more wine to the masses. Interestingly, this was the day I got married back in the previous century. And all along I was thinking we arbitrarily chose this date for our nuptials. Clearly, sometimes you know more than you think you know. Choosing February 18th set us up nicely to celebrate every single year! Even though I stopped counting anniversaries at the twenty year mark, I see no reason why I shouldn't continue to pop a cork and enjoy some wine on this designated date. After all, who am I to fly in the face of an industry-established celebration. Cheers.

I Love My Dining Room

At last! The new sideboard is assembled, decorated, and in place on the south wall of the dining room. The first table arrived just over a week ago with some damage to the top, a couple of the corners were seriously smooshed in. The new one arrived this morning and had damage to the bottom shelf! Fortunately, between the two I was able to put together one complete, undamaged sideboard. And because Wayfair is awesome, they sent a replacement in a hurry at no charge plus gave me a discount for my trouble. Shop Wayfair! Great variety at reasonable prices arrives at your door in just days. And if something is wrong, they fix it. Who could ask for more?

According to the Calendar

My ruling planet is in Aquarius today. Whatever that means. Looks to me like a pirate beach party is in order. Please direct me to the nearest tiki bar that serves flaming rum drinks. Thank you.

Sorry, Bill

Since the son has to be at work early in the morning, we are breaking our long-standing tradition of watching Ground Hog Day on Ground Hog Day. Momentarily I shall be slipping into the flannel jammies and tucking myself into my big, comfy chair to continue with my Hunger Games marathon. It's not really a marathon when you watch only one movie per night, but a girl can tolerate only so much dystopian nightmarish death and sadness in one evening. In other news, the real Phil up in Punxsutawny didn't see his shadow earlier today meaning Spring shall arrive early this year. Or on time. At least by the calendar it will be on time. According to Phil. Whatever the weather, be sure to dress appropriately.
