Seven Years

I just finished my third viewing of The West Wing in its entirety.  I know what happens, I remember how situations are resolved. The arguments, the mistakes, the triumphant successes. And I tear up over the final episode. I wish there was anything close to the intelligence, humility, humor, and thoughtfulness of this group of characters in Washington today. Anything.

Buy Me This Shirt!

Thank you. That is all.

Yum

Seriously, I would have taken a pic of this miraculous taste treat but I gobbled the strawberries so quickly there wasn't time to grab my camera. I have a weird feeling this combination is also somewhat of an aphrodisiac. I may glom onto the next man that I see. Let's hope it's bedtime before the doorbell rings.

Serenity

I love this! Incorporating the four elements into a version of the serenity prayer that I can relate to. Like any good witch, I have representations of the elements placed in my home according to their corresponding directions. Until I read this prayer, it wasn't clear to me why I have two fire altars. Obviously, I am trying to embrace change in a positive manner. Interestingly, the room in the basement where I am having water problems is on the west side of the house. The carpet and pad have been removed in preparation for a tile floor. And I have added a ten foot downspout extension to direct the water away from the foundation. Things have dried out nicely. Reid would like to have his man cave/studio/office back soon. But there is the rest of the original flooring to remove and serious cleanup before the new vinyl flooring can be installed. Why people install carpeting in a basement I will never understand. I need to get back to tiling the shower surround in my bathroom. One project at a time.

Smoking in the Bathroom

Oh, the things you find when the walls are torn open! This little gem was hiding inside the bathroom wall. I'm guessing it fell out of a workman's pocket around the time the interior of my home was finished in the late 50's. Absent is a barcode, something that became common in the mid-70's. Also no health hazard warning, these became compulsory in 1969. My mother smoked Pall Malls when I was a child, and I remember their very distinctive aroma when she lit one up. Demolition is complete for this round of home improvements. The walls in the bathroom are nearly put back together and the backsplash area in the kitchen is currently being adorned with tile. Sadly, the archaeological phase of renovations has come to an end.
