The fellow sitting next to me at the symphony last night seemed to be under the impression that there was a prize for being the first to applaud at the conclusion of each piece. Except he didn't wait for the end, he frequently clapped over the last few notes. And he also would spontaneously burst into manual accolade at various places during a song. I would expect due to veneration that was simply uncontainable. Or maybe the guy just likes to clap. He also discussed at great length with his wife whether or not a fall from where we were seated in the balcony would kill the unfortunate bastard who happened to go over the edge. He had no idea how close he was to finding out.
I despise those people. Once upon a time, I went to hear the Black Hills Symphony. The highlight of the evening was the performance of Tchaikovskys Violin Concerto in D. They had brought in a Russian born and trained violinist. Next to me sat a woman who just had to bring along a granddaughter (with friend) about 11 years old. During the solo, some of the most complex violin work ever devised, the little bitch was TALKING LOUDLY. I gave her one of my ex-Marine Vietnam veteran baby killer looks and she shut up for a minute. That particular look has been known to stop adult men in their tracks and cause them to look like trapped bunnies. Alas, the little bitch started up again. I had to give her the look that said now I am going to disembowel your grandmother, eat your little girl friend raw and then remove one of your eyes and eat it in front of your working eye. She finally shut up. Grandmothers bowels were ugly. Yep, I despise those people.
ReplyDeleteMy son and I are taking my grandmother to see The North Carolina Symphony perform in New Bern next month. I sure we don't end up sitting next to somebody like that.
ReplyDeleteRemind me never to torque you off, Ed...but I must say that I object to referring to a child of 11 as a bitch. Rude, yes. Inconsiderate, yes. She wasn't born a boor, she had to be taught and granny's behavior is a clear indication that the child had a very poor example set for her. Taking a child to the Symphony is an opportunity to learn many things, including good manners.
ReplyDeleteI suppose that 11 is a bit young for
ReplyDelete"bitch", she was definitely rude, etc.. Music is a great teacher. However, you can bring anyone to class, class won't just go to anyone. Granny had no class. I'm still upset. WAhh. Tantra I hope it never happens to you. Bellona, I am sorry you had to be near such a jerk. Carry a little bottle of "Ode De Skunke" at all times. Is there such a thing?
Next time I'll eat a massive bean burrito and wash it down with several beers. That way I'm ready with my own personal eau de skonke should the need arise.
ReplyDeleteKinda reminds me of the folks who had to sit at the front of class and nod in agreement to anything the prof said. I always wanted to whap 'em alongside the head.
